This Auxillary Archer Helmet is a high quality reproduction of what Roman "secondary" soldiers and archers wore. This Deepeeka helm is made of steel with brass accents and a brass scale aventail. Roman soldiers made great infantry, but lacked skills as cavalry or archers. As a result they looked to the Auxillia to fill these needs. Recruiting non citizen soldiers from the fringes of the empire, cavalry from Gaul and Germania and archers from Crete or Syria, among others. In many cases the Auxillia were not ''Romanised'' at all and were allowed to fight in thier native styles with their traditional equipment. This Roman Auxiliary Archer Helmet serves as a great example of this. The Near Eastern styling hints to the origin of the Syrian archers in Roman service. This helmet is fully wearable and functional and perfect for reenactments, role-playing, costumes, and is a must have for collectors and historical enthusiasts. Due to the hand-made nature of this item, slight differences in size and finish can be expected, making it a truly unique one of a kind collector's piece. The inner circumference of this helmet varies slightly, but the standard size is around 23 inches.
